Over the past 9 years, approval rates for H-1B petitions have been correlated with the Gross Domestic Product % growth (“GDP”), and inversely correlated to unemployment rates in the United States. The demand for migrant workers increased in 2011 after the economy began to recover. This year, the Congressional Budget Office projected an average of 1.8% GDP growth from 2016-2020. This could mean more opportunities for migrant workers as the economy continues to improve, and the demand for H-1B visas increases.
