USCIS published a notice announcing the recently revised Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification Form.  Form I-9 is used by an employer to verify an employee's identity and to establish that the worker is eligible to accept employment in the United States, and needs to be filled out by both employer and the employee within 3 business days of hiring. USCIS also announced that employers can no longer use prior versions of Form I-9 effective May 7, 2013. The revised I-9 form requires input from both the employee and employer. Although the new form is largely the same, several lay-out changes were made in order to make the form easier to read and more user-friendly. For information about the employment eligibility verification process, employers can call the Verification hotline at 888-464-4218. The public can also email the Verification Division at I-9Central@dhs.gov.
