Department of Labor is currently considering a fundamental reform on PERM labor certification process. PERM Process has not been reviewed since its inception in 2005. With the improvements, the DOL aims to keep up with the changes in the demand of workforce which mostly consists of Information Technology and Science Fields. The reform is to reduce the backlog and correct the issues of lack of expedited processing, inability to correct technical errors, and the use of outdated and expensive modes of recruitment, such as newspaper print ads. The Department is also considering introduction of fee-based premium processing to fund this reform.
